Architect: Wunderwerk

The Betlemi Quarter is a historic neighborhood of Old Tbilisi at the base of the Narikala Ridge. It features narrow cobblestone lanes and stair streets of brick and hewn basalt. The heritage conservation agency ICOMOS Georgia(Georgian National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites) lead the efforts to conserve and revitalize the Betlemi Quarter in Tbilisi. New construction in Betlemi requires careful design and planning to fit within the historic character.

Located just below the Kartlis Deda monument, this “apart-hotel” by@wunderwerk.architecture is built within the footprint of an old building to minimize disturbance. The landscape includes a stair that connects new terraces that provide sweeping views of the city and Mtkvari River. A forested garden surrounds the stair, reintroducing a dappled canopy to the rocky slope and dovetails with our Narikala Ridge afforestation project.
